Two connected heads with tangled and organized thoughts.

Services

IPS provides psychological evaluations primarily for adults. Typically, evaluations are conducted prior to the commencement of treatment services. However, not everyone requires a complete evaluation. Below you can find the different evaluations IPS offers.

Clinical Evaluations

Clinical Evaluations are mental health evaluations requested by an independent party. Most of the time, individuals are seeking diagnostic clarity, or they do not know where to begin their journey, but they recognize something feels different and talk therapy has not satisfied their needs to date. Typically, a clinical evaluation will occur prior to beginning talk therapy interventions, but sometimes these evaluations are helpful during an existing treatment episode. Clinical evaluations are a quicker way to obtain the most salient information an individual and potential treatment provider would need to offer effective treatment interventions to meet the individual where they are in their journey. Talk therapy can be helpful to drill down to a clear diagnosis, but it takes a little longer and potentially more funding to do so. The choice is completely up to the individual seeking the information. Below are some different clinical evaluations IPS provides. In the future we look forward to adding evaluations specific to Autism Spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders and broader neuropsychological evaluations.

Clinical evaluations receive a feedback session as a part of the evaluation process. The length of time for each evaluation (interviews and testing) can vary depending on the purpose of the evaluation but can last anywhere from 4-12 hours. Typically, evaluation reports will be completed between 10 and 20 business days after the last day of testing/interviewing. For more information regarding your unique situation, such as cost or length of time to complete the evaluation, please refer to the Informed Consent paperwork or call for a free 15-minute consultation or fill out the form on the Contact Us page.

This evaluation assesses intellectual and academic abilities and screens for learning disabilities. A wide-ranging battery of personality tests and behavior assessment tools are added to develop a broad overview of a client’s strengths and weaknesses. This approach to testing can be overwhelming, but ultimately the data collected will yield some clarity regarding the individual’s presenting problems and where a treatment provider may be able to help after the evaluation is completed. If treatment is indicated, IPS will identify what modality might fit best regarding the results of the evaluation and depending on the expertise required to intervene, IPS can provide appropriate referrals so the client may continue their journey with a better sense of direction.

These evaluations include a battery of objective and projective tests that, together with interviews and background information, address a range of issues; including (but not limited to): anxiety, depression, interpersonal styles, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, substance use, ADHD, as well as flexibility and adaptive functioning.

Similar to personality evaluations, these evaluations involve tests for IQ, adaptive functioning, and can screen for executive functioning issues, like memory and attention. Although it is ideal to have a comprehensive evaluation completed, there are times when the presenting problem involves cognitive functioning and not personality factors.

Forensic Evaluations

Forensic evaluations are mental health evaluations ordered by the court. Typically, these reports include risk for future violence or sexual re-offense, psychopathy assessments, or civil matters (like guardianship or custody). Below you can find the different forensic evaluations IPS offers. IPS is currently training in other areas, such as psychopathy and violence risk, to ultimately offer more selection regarding assessments.

Forensic evaluations may receive a feedback session as a part of the evaluation process, depending on the circumstances (court-ordered versus client-requested). The length of time for each evaluation (interviews and testing) can vary and are typically more time-intensive than clinical evaluations. These evaluations can also take anywhere from 4-12 hours. Typically, evaluation reports will be completed within 10 to 20 business days after the last day of testing/interviewing. If there is a need for the report to be completed in less than 10 business days, there is an added rush fee.

Please refer to the Informed Consent paperwork for more information. Additionally, you can call for a free 15-minute consultation if you have more questions about your unique situation.

Evaluates normal and deviant sexual attitudes, behaviors, interests, and history. Usually completed in conjunction with personality and cognitive measures, this evaluation is often requested to help with treatment dosage recommendations or to develop a specific treatment plan. Presently, these evaluations are quite comprehensive, but there are options for less comprehensive assessments based on the needs of the client, court or attorney requesting the evaluation. The court can request these evaluations pre-adjudication, pre-sentence or post-sentence.

Violence risk evaluations are comprehensive and involve actuarial measures in conjunction with structured professional judgment measures to ascertain an individual’s general risk for violence in the foreseeable future. Risk factors that may increase an individual’s risk of violence are identified, and protective factors are also assessed to determine mitigation of the individual’s violence risk. Treatment and supervision targets are offered as indicated.

COMING SOON: Domestic Violence or Intimate Partner Violence Evaluations involve utilizing actuarial measures and structured interviewing to evaluate one’s propensity for future violence against an intimate partner or member of one’s household. This evaluation examines the attitudes and beliefs an individual holds regarding violence toward an intimate partner. These are different from lethality assessments when the measures are designed to detect whether a present violent incident or living situation could escalate to homicide.

Expert Testimony

Occasionally, judges or attorneys subpoena IPS for testimony. The process involves IPS going into court for your scheduled hearing, and testifying about whatever questions the judge or attorneys have regarding your treatment progress or results of your evaluation. There are limits to your right to confidentiality, and if your evaluation is court-ordered, anything you say or do during the course of the evaluation process can be released to the Court.

If you and your attorney request IPS evaluation services, you have the ability not to use the final report in your case, if you choose not to present it in court. If you are ordered to treatment, the court may be privy to your treatment progress. The Court can also compel IPS to release all treatment notes, if necessary, in particular cases. Should you require it, IPS can provide expert testimony, the costs of which are found within the Informed Consent paperwork signed by the client at the outset of treatment or an evaluation.

Psychotherapy

IPS is clinically focused and client-centered. Training in Clinical, Family, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy helps with understanding historical dynamics that influence one’s current functioning and circumstance. Early attachment styles will help inform the way in which one relates to others within their current environment. As a team, you and your provider will ultimately focus on your needs and goals and work together to find the most effective path for you. As such, there is flexibility with therapeutic interventions while maintaining scope of practice from IPS providers. If you are willing to work hard, invest in yourself, and confront the challenging things in your life, you can make incredible insights that will impact the way you approach life thereafter.

Ultimately, life is stressful, “adulting” can be tough, but preventative mental health care can save lives. Let’s create the life you want to live. As you walk along this road together with your provider, IPS will provide perspective about things you may not have noticed or thought about before. You cannot fail in therapy. Take at least one thing from your time with IPS, and it will change either your outlook toward others or the world, or it can create a new level of insight that drives better decision-making; there is an abundance of possibilities.

Therapy sessions are typically 45-60 minutes in duration, depending on the presenting problem. Please contact IPS for a free 15-minute consultation or fill out the form on the Contact Us page. IPS looks forward to meeting with you to discuss your needs, options and to help you find your place.

Mandated Therapy

COMING SOON: IPS will provide mandated treatment as ordered by the Utah Courts or the Board of Pardons and Parole for individuals who have caused sexual harm. Specifically, IPS will focus its attention on females who cause sexual harm and individuals convicted of possessing child sexual exploitation materials. Treatment interventions will be in compliance with the Utah Department of Corrections Sex Offense Task Force Provider Program Parameters. Treatment plans will be determined utilizing the Risk Needs Responsivity Model (RNR) and effectively communicated with clients as they enter the program. IPS is developing its curriculum and aims to open treatment for these two populations in the Fall 2025.

Consultation

Sometimes, businesses or treatment teams need additional insight into properly approaching evaluations, forensic report writing, mandated treatment, team morale building, strategic planning, etc. Various agencies can contract with IPS to offer guidance and support for their ideas. If your trainees, staff, agency, or organization are interested in the aforementioned topic areas or adjacent areas, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page and we can further discuss needs, fit, and availability.

Training

IPS can provide perspective on a variety of topics, including self-care, vicarious trauma, and sexual offending/sexually inappropriate behaviors. IPS is working toward Independent Trainer status for the Static-99R, Stable-2007 and Acute-2007 sexual risk assessment tools. These trainings are for professionals in the prevention field working with individuals who cause sexual harm. IPS will be seeking trainer status with the Structured Assessment of Protective Factors, Sexual Offending version (SAPROF-SO) later in 2025. IPS conducts trainings on vicarious traumatization, team building, imposter phenomenon, emerging adult populations, and more. Use the Contact Us page to submit your inquiries.

Psychoeducation

COMING SOON: IPS is dedicated to prevention efforts, specifically primary prevention. Primary prevention helps mitigate the development of potentially problematic cognitive schemas, perceptions, or maladaptive behaviors and fosters a healthy development of interpersonal effectiveness. Using the parent as the guide and the role model, IPS will work to help them develop open lines of communication with their children early in their development. Further, IPS will help empower parents to help their children through challenging social experiences including bullying, sexual assault and harassment, social media, cultural competency, transitions, losing friends, developing assertive boundaries while remaining kind, managing frustrations and anger, etc. These classes will last approximately eight weeks for 90 minutes each week and aims to assist parents of children ages 0-12+. Parents will be grouped according to their children’s developmental level when able. The whole of this experience is to provide a safe place for parents to learn, but also gain support and creative ideas from other parents. IPS aims to begin these services in the Summer or Fall 2025.
